Through a Child Custody Battle - A Law Firm by Your Side
Physical Custody ● Legal Custody ● Joint Custody
No facet of divorce or family law litigation ever has as much emotional weight and importance as a child custody dispute. To be awarded physical custody of a child is to be awarded a source of companionship, an enduring outlet for affection, and a chance to guide his or her development. Fortunately for most parents, Connecticut courts rarely award either spouse sole physical custody, meaning both parents generally have a hand in raising their children.
If you're facing divorce and are concerned about child custody issues, contact us today for a free initial consultation. The Best Interests of the Children
When a judge makes a custody ruling, they have one priority in mind: the best interests of the children. Since conventional wisdom holds that children are better off when both of their parents raise them, most of these cases end with a joint custody arrangement, unless circumstances involving the best interest of the child dictate otherwise. There are certain exceptions to the usual joint custody arrangement, however, such as when one parent fails to communicate with the other or can be shown to be unfit to raise children.
Attorneys Designated As "Special Masters" at Regional Family Trial Docket
In addition to serving our clients regarding child custody matters, we also serve the state of Connecticut in our position as special masters at the Regional Family Trial Docket in Middletown. A position that only experienced family lawyers are qualified to fill, the job of the special master is to try to resolve divorce, physical and legal custody conflicts through mediation.
This process takes a large burden off of the court system, is less expensive for the divorcing couple, and generally results in more satisfactory rulings for all parties involved. In keeping with our skill at mediation, we also believe that even when the dispute has to be resolved in court, the attorneys for both sides should remain civil, professional and amicable at all times. Hostility in the courtroom only hurts the client and their cause.
